First graders spend quite a bit of time learning how to read. They build upon reading skills that were started in kindergarten. Segementing words becomes an everyday objective when learning how to read.

Some kids struggle with reading for various reasons. Maybe your teaching style doesn’t meet their learning style. Maybe you have a child like mine who suffers from dyslexia and central auditory processing problems. It can be hard for you to reach your child, but do not give up. Some kids are just late readers. There are remedial reading programs available to help homeschool kids learning to read. You are not alone in this journey.
