With the new common core, there’s still some real confusion on the steps to learning how to read.

On one hand, the basic letters and sounds are learned in kindergarten. The letter combinations are learned in first grade. In second grade, all the basics skill are done.

 

What this means is that, for example, the kids learn the letter T makes the /t/ sound in kindergarten. But only in first, they discover that TH makes the /th/ sound. ┬áTHis must be be THree times more confusing to THem when THey Try to read and discover THaT THe rule that they’ve learned is mostly wrong!!!!
