Sometimes homeschooling isn’t the easiest thing to do.
I just want to get my own work done and she’s looking to do something else than what we have lined up.
Now don’t get me wrong, I really really really love her development and growth and skills… ad infinitum… but I would also love a few minutes peace where she sits quietly doing the assignments laid out for her without giving me a hard time.
Of course that would mean that she is being trained to not think, ask, explore, analyze, and when push comes to shove, I’d take the harder road.
Today she’s been working on science on her online curriculum. She has taken the lesson and now wants to get out the microscope from our science kit and look at everything she can get her hands on with it. Dog hair? No problem – please put it on a slide mommy. Dust – ‘are there dust mites in?” Lunch – oh boy that’s a whole opportunity for learning., and of course at bed time: “Mommy where’s the moon from us…” well that wont fit on a slide so we have to discuss a whole new topic and that sometimes things seem closer to the earth than they are. This is of course where a membership to the local children’s science museum comes in handy.
So when you are looking for things to do with homeschooling your first grade – what do you do? We’d love to read it.
